Introduction

Papadakis Technologies has released the Soaripod, an US$29.95 accessory for people wishing to watch movies, television shows or videos on their mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPod touch. With it you can watch videos in a more comfortable position than having your head tilted down for a long period.

The Soaripod grasps the media device, but lets you adjust it to the most comfortable spot for your viewing pleasure. It was designed through extensive research by the president of Papadakis Technologies, George Papadakis, with the traveler in mind.

ÒThe heart of the Soaripod is the P-clip (patent pending) attachment,Ó he told Macsimum News. ÒIt was designed to connect with a multitude of surfaces so you can watch movies anywhere, from planes, to trains, to automobiles. The 12-inch vertebrae gives you maximum flexibility to adjust the view of your media device, and allows you to watch a movie without having to strain your neck or back. You can position it for everybody to watch along with you, or you can position it only towards you for total privacy.Ó

When youÕre done, the SoaripodÕs vertebrae collapses and disassembles storage in the included travel tote bag. The Soaripod comes with a clip to hold your iPhone/iPod touch, but can hold any other device with their respective belt clip. http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/soaripod_released_for_iphones_ipod_touch/

My Experience

Well, at first it was; "What the heck?" And then I realized I needed to use the "belt clip" to squeeze the iPhone 3G into. It sort of kind of fits, but the clip holder has to sort of "stretch" to get a complete hold on the iPhone. Apparently, the older iPhones and iTouches don't have an issue.

As others have noted, a belt clip is al that is needed to hold the device in place. The one that comes with it can be rotated and it snaps as it rotates in what seems to be close to  45-degree increments (3 snaps from horizontal to vertical), so you know it is secured, at least as far as the Soaripod is concerned.

The "P-Clip" is not too strong, not too tight, but just right for easy slide on and slide off as long as you have an edge to clip it to.

And yes, there are 21 plastic intersecting ball joints.

Perfect for my desk.

Am I going to watch movies on it anytime soon? No. Convenient for using as a holder as a vidphone? Yes. Can I take pics using it as a holder? No.

Conclusion

Nice, if you intend to be tethered to your iPhone for long extended periods of time.
